What keeps us active?

What keeps us active?

We talk a lot about being active, so what does that look like for some of us?

Many of our schedules mostly revolve around the various activities we have going on with our kids, extended family, and friends. If it’s baseball season you can find us at the ballpark most nights during the week and on the weekends. For parents that means volunteering, lots of volunteering. Up next is soccer season, so that means multiple teams! Also, to keep things ultra chaotic we like to throw in Chinese school on the weekends and karate or basketball sometime during the week. Everyone also loves a good vacation so we definitely sprinkle in one or two trips during the year.

That doesn’t even begin to describe everything else that is available. The sheer volume of activities out there is astounding. There’s art, coding, math, and science camps.

And that is just to keep things interesting and everyone socially engaged, but doesn’t even incorporate all the skate parks, swim lessons and tennis camps we also have going on.

And, if you invite us, we will be there (or at least make every effort to show up) because we want to support all of our friends and families amazing events and accomplishments too.

To say this keeps us busy is an understatement. We also try to stay active with school activities, head to the local zoo (Oakland Zoo is a favorite)  to check out the animals, the regional park for a hike (East Bay Regional Parks), a bike ride around the neighborhood or the splash pad in the back yard.

So does this cost money - of course, but we try to find free or low-cost options when possible. The local rec center usually has a lot of great free and low-cost activity options and they have some local sponsorship opportunities. We also look to great organizations like Youth on Course that provides kids who are members with access to play golf on several courses for $5 or less and Junior Giants that support free non-competitive and coed baseball and softball programs.

Bottom line, anything can keep you active as long as you are having fun doing it.
